Dear Friends,

I know what you're thinking.  WHAT HAPPENED AND WHY AREN'T YOU UPDATING!?! Well, to be truthful, I hated what I was writing here at Scott's Movie Palace. I really hated my style of writing and loathed sitting down to write or update the site. I still love watching films, but talking about them is more fun than writing about them. At the end of the day, my "voice" was beginning to bore me quite a bit. When I read some of the reviews, I really liked them, but others didn't sound like me.

So I've made a bit of a decision about the direction of this site.

It will still feature news, upcoming release dates, reviews and trailers, but in a more compressed fashion. I've scribbled out what I want the new interface to look like and I'm trying to figure out how to make it a reality. The look of this site is currently a hybrid of all the different versions of the site, so I'm looking to start from scratch visually.

At the end of the day, this site was a major pain in my ass to update due to the hundreds of interface changes, so I'm trying to make it easier to add new content without it taking hours of my day.

And that brings me to how I'm going to write reviews from now on. Sometimes, constructive criticism just doesn't pan out and I don't feel like saying that "Seltzer and Friedberg are trying hard, but failing." If I see a film and it sucks. I'm going to write "This movie sucked and here's why." If a film makes me angry enough to use adult language, I'm going to. And if the only words that come to mind are "painstakingly dull," I might not even write a long review at all. I might just throw up a rating and say "skip it." Why waste two hours formatting and writing a expertly written review when the filmmakers didn't take the time to make a good film. I guess you could say that I'm taking a page from Richard Roeper's book and calling bullshit bullshit.

So it's probably going to take a month or two with the new interface. I will continue writing new reviews so there will be a boat-load of those when the new site premieres. Hopefully this will reignite my passion for writing about film, because right now I'm finding it hard to put together 1000 words on "Hitman" for you. All I can muster is, "I don't know what the hell was happening during that movie. The girl was hot and the Timothy Olyphant was overacting. It was awful."

I'll keep you updated.

Scott Davis
